DIRT
Colin McRae MBE 1968-2007
As the latest installment that brought the Codemasters franchise to the forefront of gaming, DIRT provides an in-depth and immersive experience into the world of rally racing. The high detail models, lush environments, and fast-paced rendering make this DX10 capable game a great test for real world performance. Not to mention, it is a great way to work on lap times.
A video of the approximate DIRT game play experience during DX9 and DX10 testing is below. Feel free to follow the line graphs over the 300-second time span while the video is playing, or reference the MIN/MAX/AVG chart for summary FPS data. Because the video is repetitive in nature, we switch to alternative game play footage for additional viewpoints of the card rendering the game. Audio quality is not a priority, and we recommend turning down the volume.

The Leadtek WinFast PX8800GT plows through DIRT with relative ease. The DX9 test runs average out to 33FPS at 1600x1200. The same run with DX10 rendering results in an average 28FPS. None of the tests produces any measurements below 25FPS, which is impressive to say the least.
The best playable resolution is 1280x1024 on Ultra settings, which leaves a buffer for the intense action scenes and multiple-car races. Racing games require a higher FPS to ensure optimal game play. However, fluid high-resolution gaming is still feasible with a 30FPS average. The PX8800GT has more than adequate power for managing the lush environment of DIRT.
