Packaging

The external packaging for the WinFast PX8800GT consists of a heavy weight glossy cardboard. The gloss coat also spreads the light spectrum to create a rainbow streak effect across the surface of the packaging. The front cover is laden with marketing terms and technology badges. Besides the CGI character, there is a graph comparing the RV670 vs. the 8800GT, a picture of the card inside, and a logo indicating which free game is included. The marketing hype is not over used, and they have an attractive retail presence.

The four smaller sides of the box are rather sparse, having only the full model name and logo replicated in different styles. The right side has the only useful data: the system requirements information box. This may sound a bit plain, but simplicity is sometimes the best.

Leadtek had the uninitiated in mind when designing the back of the package. Most of the marketing information is located on the back. In the grey box is an image of the card with general feature descriptions pointing to different areas of the card. The parts list is towards the bottom. The only enthusiast information is a small specifications section that lists output types, memory capacity, GPU type, GPU clock, and RAMDAC clock. On the other hand, enthusiasts do not get their information from the back of a retail box.

The tab lock case opens to reveal a well-organized protection scheme. The video card resides in the core of the box, which affords an excellent defense against shipping impacts. Once the included software is removed, two flaps pull back to allow access to the bubble wrapped video card resting on a foam insert. Common accessories are in the surrounding buffer spaces. Problems should not arise while shipping this card from looking at the thorough packaging.

There is one 2x4-pin to 6-pin adapter for power supplies without the standard 6-pin power connection. One DVI to D-Sub converter is available for backwards compatibility with displays that are not digital, like our Hitachi CM812. The home theater/ big screen TV owners are in luck as well, Leadtek includes a Composite, S-Video, and YPbPr multi-pin interface adapter.

A foldable multilingual quick installation guide is included. The booklet covers fourteen different languages. The guide is a general tutorial for almost every video card in existence. There is just enough information to get the card into the slot. A full-scale manual is available on the driver CD and online(.zip).
