nvg949600gt001.jpg There is still one issue concerning the G94, there is a lack of presence for DX10.1 support. NVIDIA believes that there is not enough demand to implement it yet, and that is a valid assessment. There are only a handful of DX10 games out now; most of them are patched DX9 games. The consumers are only recently adopting DX10.0 hardware, and it would be ill advised to abandon that install base. NVIDIA's decision should make publishers happy, and allow for another improved generation of DX10 games.

Pconline.com.cn and BHFO are nodding our heads in agreement. The G94-300 provides needed competition against ATi's price points, and replaces the 8600 series. At 169USD, we will pick one up for review on release day.

9600GT, hit or miss!
Anonymous (71.101.136.27) 2008-02-03 15:32:09

This new 9600GT looks promising, if it's to replace the 8600 cards.

Let's hope it's just "double the performance" and not "double the price" also. (hit or miss part)

Question: Is this targeted as a mainstream card or a midrange?

the card's price is set at around 169 USD. the current 8600 runs around 100USD. It will be more expensive, but the price per performance is reasonable. In addition, once the 9800X2s and 3870x2s start competing, the price of the 9600 should drop.

To answer your question: The card is targeted at the mid-range market
