founth-dimensionresDailymail.co.uk has published an interesting article written by Stephen Hawking on the practicality of time travel. He covers wormholes and approaching the speed of light as methods of time travel. He also covers current evidence that the passage of time is not constant, but varies based on conditions such as gravity (GPS satellite time loss) or velocity (LHC time dilation) He then expands on this proof into possible and impossible ways for humanity to travel through time.

horizon.jpgWe are looking forward to this month with our Leadtek PX8800GT review polished and complete. BHFO will have a 9800 series card coming in for review, although we are not sure if it will be a GTX or an X2. We will update when we know more information. Chris is working on a WRT350N+WUSB300N review for networking products and developing a testing process.

On the news front, Benchmark Reviews published a 9800GTX 512MB review worth reading. Following the common trend of being "green", engadget has an interesting article about Swiss data centers that are supplying near by pools with free heat.

horizon.jpgBHFO will be shifting gears to focus on our original intent, our review section. Despite some set backs, Chris is finishing his Leadtek WinFast PX8800GT for BHFO’s first review publication.

Coinciding with the name, Black Hole File Org, we will be releasing torrents containing extra content with each review. The torrents contain files such as higher quality videos, graph images, screen shots, raw .xls files, and any other relevant files are included to enhance the user experience. The goal is to allow those with the desire to delve into the information and make their own analysis.

Below is our pre-release for the Leadtek 8800GT. Pre-release packs in the future, similar to this one, will be available prior to publication by logging in and going to the torrents page. Read more for the file list and an examples of content.

  • 1.86GB
  • 7 game play videos and a vista DX Aero capture
  • Sample images of the video card (full set in review)
  • Screenshots
  • Thermal data graphs
  • FPS graphs

horizon.jpgNVIDIA is not short of press coverage on their new 9800X2 and 790i chipset. Several sites around the net have these new beasts in Quad SLI. The benchmarks point to a small advantage in HD gaming, but not worth the severe cost. BHFO also welcomes our newest affiliate, Benchmark Reviews. They have some serious SSD coverage and an article on Overclocking for beginners.

canadasngpm.jpgFollowing an early report, high quality copies of a Canadian show will be uploaded the day after airing on TV, and without any of those "friendly" DRM restrictions.

The CBC is not alone, European broadcasters, such as the BBC, are currently working on a bit torrent client of the next generation kind, allowing broadcasting companies to distribute their media online. By using bit torrent, productions costs are reduced dramatically, and are distributed in a form the public are consistently using.

Approximately 50% of all bit torrent downloads are of TV-shows, and episodes of popular shows such as "Lost", "Prison Break" and "Heroes" get up to 10 million downloads per episode, spread over thousands of sites.

It is promising to see broadcasters coming around to the benefits of both dropping DRM additives on their media, and using Bit Torrent for low-cost distribution. Last month Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) made the popular TV-show "Nordkalotten 365″ available in a DRM-free format. This experiment turned out to be a huge success, while the distribution costs were close to zero. Thumbs are going up all over the community for these companies willing to brave the possible losses, and try their hand at offering legitimate sources of media that people will actually use.
