Via was able to give their C7 Platform a boost in performance
today. The normal processors found in mobile devices, such as the OQO 02, use
the Centaur C7 line. VIA released their new Isaiah, which is two to four times as
powerful. The major breakthrough is that they managed to do this while
maintaining drop-in compatibility. This processor is twice as fast as its predecessor
is, but uses the same resources. They accomplished this engineering feat by designing an entirely new architecture from scratch. Glenn
Henry, lead CPU Designer at VIA (centaur), explains his project. More information can also be found in Glenn's Architecture brief.

The incredibly lucky guys over at pconline.com.cn have yet another staggering review of new video card hardware. Instead of NVIDIA running the show, AMD really pulled through and shined. Once again, Chris combed, analyzed, and organized the data. Read on to look at the results and specification for this new AMD-ATi HD 3870X2 graphics card. The release date is TODAY on 01-23-08**.
**Update** It looks like ATi pushed back the release date to January 28, 2008. This move is to allow time for AMD to improve the drivers, as well as launch all of their cards at the same time. This was so sudden that many companies could not react in time, and that is why there are many "leaks" out on the internet.

The field of display technology has seen some impressive announcements recently, but this one tops the charts for this crew. The University of Washington has implemented microscopic manufacturing or self-assembly (capillary forces) to make a new kind of contact lens. This contact has a microscopic imprinted circuit with light emitting capabilities. This kind of breakthrough opens the door to a host of possible applications, including HUD overlays and immersive displays. Do not get too excited yet, read on about the prototype technology.
