AT&T Censorship
Written by Chris Hunter

attprotest.jpgA rather appalling video surfaced at the beginning of the month. It showed willful censorship of Joel Johnson from BoingBoing, while he was on the Hugh Thompson show. He started to criticize AT&T’s government cooperation and spying, when they stopped the AT&T tech channel cold.

BHFO - First Month
Written by Chris Hunter

horizon.jpgBHFO has been up for one month. The response to our site has been tremendous. We would like to thank everyone that has been an early adopter, all 106,787 of you.

There is much in store as the site continues to grow. The site has been moved to an upgraded server to handle the traffic. We are polishing the website and developing a mobile version as well.

To celebrate, BHFO would like to welcome Matthew Bradford as a News Editor. In addition, we would like to welcome Jerry W. Anderson Ph.D. J.D. as our resident Legal Editor. He will provide legal insight for stories, such as p2p issues and those tricky apple patents.

Looking to the future, a corporate Senior Network Systems Analyst will be contributing content to the site. He has two compelling articles in the works. Profiles and more information on our new crew will be up within the week.

Feedback on our progress is welcome in the comments.

Event Horizon - Linux [02.10.08]
Written by Justin Ohl

horizon.jpgThere is a war out there with lots of tension: Closed versus Open Source. Which will ultimately win? Linus sees things as nearly grim, but even the military can mess up Linux. It is possible a large state can adopt Open-Source, but as they say, "slow and steady wins the race."

Those that are more concerned about Geocaching experiments should check out the Linux Geographic Information System or GIS.

KDE has been huge lately. The new release, the hype, and the ink have turned-out numerous bug fixes from the humongous KDE community. The release has been bumped-up to 4.0.1. Ars technica gives it a clean bill of health.

Some people still need to run their Windows applications on their Linux boxes. Wine-Doors makes that happen on a graphical and easy-to-use interface. Their 0.2 release is looking good thus far.

Finally, some of us like to live on the edge: Fedora Core 9, codenamed Sulphur, has hit the press. Go ahead and see what makes the kernel panic.
