Event Horizon - [02.16.08]
Written by Chris Hunter
horizon.jpgOther than the death of the HD DVD format, Comcast had a rude awakening this morning. The bit-torrent protocol is evolving, which will soon nullify Comcast's filtering efforts. Anyone with a cellular home security system or any analog cellular device needs to read ars technica's article. Analog signals are going silent on Monday.

Event Horizon - Linux [02.16.08]

Linus Torvalds has had much to say down under. Looks like the Linux.conf.au shindig compelled him to talk.

Linux is getting lots of ink on mobility. Looks like they are making progress on many different fronts, and our next iPhone might run Linux instead of OSX.

Red Hat is looking to make some waves in the IT world by hitting one billion USD in revenue this year. It could be a reasonable goal, seeing as how it is outrageously popular.

Mac and PS3 users, check out the new Yellow Dog 6, and get to folding.

Phoronix has an analysis of the AMD Phenom. They look at the 32bit versus the 64bit performance. It is an interesting angle.

EA Sets Release Date for Spore
Written by Chris Hunter
sporethumb.jpgAs of today, one of the most innovative and buzz worthy games of the year has a release date. EA announced that the game "Spore" is slated for release on September 7, 2008. Spore is still TBA on their website, but the home page is current. Eye catching footage of the game has been around for a few years now, and it has been creating a stir. What is appealing is the game play is unlike any game we have seen. Something everyone can appreciate is a date to look forward to on a Maxis game that is not "The Sims". Read on for more coverage.

Here is the teaser trailer released today:

**update**

A Wii version is planned according to an interview with Newsweek. In addition, the Wii-mote will have specific control implementations.

Apple's Patents and Trademarks - iGame
Written by Chris Hunter

uspto.jpgOur Legal Editor, Jerry, pointed out to us today that Apple has had lots of activity at the US PTO. Apple has had a large number of patents published in the past week(both applications and issued), some say 47. Jerry has found 30 so far. These patents were probably part of the 200+ patents Steve Jobs announced last year at the 2007 Mac Expo. Some Mac sites picked up on the developement last week. Macnn has some coverage, as well as MacWorld

In Addition, Apple has a trademark application for “iGame”. This trademark raises an eyebrow, but what exactly it is for is the question. Is it perhaps a hand held device, or an Internet channel for the iPhone? The potential is broad. We will update when more information comes in.

**update**

The trademark covers a broad spectrum.

"Toys, games and playthings, namely, handheld units for playing electronic games; handheld units for playing videogames; stand alone videogame machines; electronic games other than those adapted for use with televisions receivers only; LCD games machines, electronic educational game machines; toys, namely battery-powered computer games."
